Mandrakelinux 10.2 beta 1

I just reading through the Mandrakelinux 10.2 beta 1 read me. I hope to start testing it this week, overwriting my 10.1 install. Some things that I find interesting are:

1) You can put the CD’s on your hard drive so you don’t have to stick the disks in when you want to add a package that you already have.

2)Drakestats. Gives you a list of all installed (I’m guessing from RPM only) software and how often you’ve used it.

  1. Regarding the cds, can you not explore the cd data from HD on most OSs? Please don’t tell me that this happens to be something that Windows is good at. 🙂

  2. Yes you can. But URPMI , thats what you use on Mandrake to install or update or remove software, looks at media sets. It been possible to do this and manually set it all up. What I’m guessing is that they now have a simple check box to set all this up for you. Its always been a command line configuration that I’ve used todo this with in the past. This should make it better for folks who don’t want to dig in to stuff that much.
