I decided to give Firebirda try. The software that I currently work with uses Interbase as its database server. Firebird is basically the open source version of interbase. It worked like a charm for Win2k and more importantly on Linux.
I can now run my databases on a linux server. Of course I need to test this before I move it into a production environment, but its looking reall good. Here are my notes if your interested:

Yes Soft Tech V6 Manufacturing Software works with Firebird running on linux. If all goes well this could be a huge cost saver over running an interbase server or having to run a Microsoft SQL server.
