I’ve always tended to keep my computers very organized. There is nothing worse than not being able to find a file when you need it. So for as long as I can remember everything has had its place. Its not often that I can find something that I know I have.
Since moving mainly to a powerbook at home none of that has changed. I keep it organized as well. But I have discovered that you can go way overboard, and I like it. Lately I’ve been on a kick with iTunes. I’ve been slowly going through my albums to make sure all the data is correct. I’ve been ripping my CD’s to mp3 for several years now, and things have changed. Better tags, more information etc. I just want to make sure its all correct. And I’ve been adding Album covers also. Its quite an obsession to make sure things are correct.
This love of organization spills over in to iView Media Pro, where once again you can go over board. Not only do you have all the exif info from the pictures, but you can categorize, add notes, keywords, location data, etc. So after each shoot, I HAVE to get all this data in place. I love it. iPhoto, which is mainly used for snapshots these days lets me do this to some degree, so I do.
Then there is Address book. I spend a little time a week making sure things are up to date. My latest craze is putting pictures into match with names. I love this.
I’m sure this hasn’t developed into a full blown addiction yet, but its getting close. One side benefit is that its spilling over into home life. This is great for me, I love the cleanliness and the organized fell of the house, but I don’t think Camille is digging me working in the Kitchen at midnight because something is out of place.
